Today is the National Walk to Work Day. It is the 1st Friday of April.
The day has been held on the first Friday of April in the United States since 2004 and was created to help people get healthy.
The US Department of Health and Human Services and the American Pediatric Medical Association endorse the day.
Did you know that walking only for 30-60 minutes a day can help you reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.
There are other benefits according to the Harvard School of Public Health, if you take a brisk one-hour daily walk it can help curb obesity. I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but the study is interesting.
Walking can be therapeutic too, if you plan a scenic route that is inspiring….
If you are like me and live in a city like South Florida, you may not be able to walk from home to work or take public transportation. Don’t fret, you can still participate by walking at work or walking to lunch.
Here are some ways to get about 15 minutes of walking:
- – Take public transportation and get off at an earlier stop.
- – Park some distance from your workplace and leg it.
- – Walk to lunch.
- – Explore some new areas at your workplace that is near enough to walk to but just isn’t on your daily route.
