If you are a literary buff, you are well aware of all the buzz on Harper Lee’s new novel “Go Set a Watchman” finally coming to light 55 years after the world famous “To Kill a Mockingbird”. I find all of the events surrounding the publishing of this book fascinating.
I had to share the link to the first chapter because the fact Harper Lee agreed to put out this book in the first place is amazing. She is an 89 years old Pulitzer Prize winning author currently living in an assisted living facility, who was born and raised in Monroeville, Alabama. If not now, when? It is never too late to make a statement in life and with the publishing of Go Set a Watchman, Ms. Harper Lee is definitely making a statement.
The New York Times Writer, Alexandra Alter gives us a poignant look at the novel in her book prieview in the New York Times article In First Chapter of Harper Lee’s ‘Go Set a Watchman,’ Sprouts With Deep Roots.
I agree with the following statement by Alexandra about Harper Lee.
But whether it holds up to her Pulitzer Prize-winning debut novel, “Watchman” will offer readers an unprecedented and unfiltered look into the mind and creative process of one of the country’s most revered and enigmatic authors.
Only time will tell how this will ultimately play out on the literary scene. Will this win another Pulitzer? One thing for sure is that it definitely will be a New York Times Best Seller. The Go Set a Watchman has had record-breaking pre-sales orders.
Little did Ms. Harper Lee know that she would shake up the media world with publishing this new book. I hope in my heart that she will be able to reap the rewards and monies from this book and that she is not being exploited by unscrupulous individuals trying to take advantage of an elderly person. It is my sincere hopes that she will enjoy this new found attention.
This goes to show that you are never too old to make history.
