Fit Tip: 30 Minutes a Day – Moderate physical activity
The World Health Organization recommends that adults 18-65 years old get “30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity 5 days per week” or “20 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity 3 days per week”
What can you do in 30 minutes? A lot…
According to an article – How much should the average adult exercise every day? on the Mayo Clinic website by: Edward R. LasKowski, M.D. moderate exercise is not that hard to accomplish on a daily basis.
- Moderate exercise can include things such as:
brisk walking, swimming and riding a bicycle
- Vigorous aerobic exercise can include things such as:
running, aerobic dancing, strength training, weight machine, rock climbing
You should do at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more.
If time is not on your side, try brief amounts of physical activity. take for example, if you do not have time for a 30-minute walk, try three 10-minute walks instead.
The important take away is that you need to make physical activity a regular portion of your daily life.
