We all know that great copy sells and inspires people to read, learn more and share with others.  It really seems like a no-brainer. Right??  Why is it so hard to always create content that manages to grab more attention and to go viral?

It really all starts with the headline.  You have to get the reader emotionally attached to your content.

Full Disclosure: I totally love and embrace all the wonderful information that is created and shared by the CoSchedule.com team. They are simply brilliant and are exceptional thought leaders on several essential  writing and marketing topics.  This leads me to the amazing little cheat sheet with 180+ words that should be used when writing emotional headlines that the co-schedule.com created. The list of power words is simply brilliant…

I am not surprised that starts with “free” and “sale” , however, the list has a vast amount of amazing words that are perfect for adding power and punch to your headlines.

  • remarkable
  • ultimate
  • popular
  • exclusive
  • unsurpassed
  • breakthrough
  • emerging
  • simplified
  • tremendous
  • innovative
  • revolutionary

I must say that I am impressed with this comprehensive list of power words that I will be keeping next to my desk on the wall for review while writing and blogging.

Co-founder, Garrett Moon, did a fabulous job writing the ever so engaging blog post: Proof that emotional headlines get shared more on social media. It is a comprehensive blog post  that really gets into the meat of what it takes to make people love to share your content. It looks at the intellectual side, empathetic side and spiritual side to writing. This post is chock full of so much information to digest, you will want to definitely book mark it and re-read it several times to make sure that you tale in all of the tips.

I especially liked the examples of re-worked headlines that were good to start with, but vastly improved after adding a little more sizzle to the headline. Take a look at a few of my favorites from the blog post:

  • Existing Headline: 12 Top Tips For Excellent Business Writing (14%)
  • New Headline: 12 Easy To Follow Tips For Better Business Writing (33%)

  • Old Headline: Small Business Line Of Credit: Is It Right For You? (20%)
  • New Headline: How Do You Know A Small Business Line Of Credit Is For You?

  • Existing Headline: Tips for Keeping Your Taxes Organized All Year Round (11%)
  • New Headline: Super Easy Ways To Keep Your Taxes Organized All Year (40%)

If you are serious about writing, you will always be on the lookout for ways to improve your craft. This goes for fiction writing, copy writing, professional writing for marketers, bloggers and aspiring writers.

It all begins with looking at your work objectively and formulating a successful strategy to help you succeed. There is no magic bullet to success, it takes diligence, commitment and having an open mind to try new things until you find the right sweet spot.

All successful writers will tell you that they did not find their sweet spot to success overnight. It took a lot of trial and error.

Surrounding yourself with other successful writers and positive environments that help you breathe new life and energy into your work is an essential element to success.

Check out the list of 180+ power words and see how you can integrate these power words into your writing sizzle more and captivate a wider audience in the social media space.
