I must say that I wish that I could spend more time reading some of the great classics. I am amazed at how timeless these pieces are, such as:
- The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald
- Little Women – Louis May Alcott
- Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
- Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen
- Jayne Eyre – Charlotte Bronte
- Great Expectations – Charles Dickens
- The Last of The Mohicans – James Fenimore Cooper
- Alice in Wonderland – Lewis Carroll
I must confess that I have read these books several times thoughout my lifetime. When movies are made on these great classics, I am one of the first to go and see how the director and screenwriters have adapted my favorite reads. PBS is one of my all time favorite channels that shows movies based on several of my facorite Classics. I think that it is safe to say, despite having seen most of them, I can see them over and over again. This is a true testament to magnificent plots that were crafted by the original authors.
If you are a lover of these great classics and others, you should be delighted to know that they are available free online for download. If you have an e-reader, such as Kindle or Nook, you can download the classics free anytime. Isn't this great?
I came across a Free website that offers Free downloads of several of my favorite classics and decided to share the link with you.
It is called Planet E-Book – brought to you by the peoplewh make Nitro Pro and Nitro Reader – PDF maker and PDF reader software. They are a competitor to Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
I was curious if there were other sources like this online.
I came across the following:
Adobe Digital Editions Library - Some Books are entirely Free – Some are Samples – It is there… I love Adobe and have several of their products. They are by far one of my favorite software companies that know how to use creative marketing efectively. However, , I was unimpressed with how paltry the Adobe Ebook collection appears. It just seems like this was after thought. I firmly believe that if you are not going to do it right, don't do it at all. Just give money to a group like Project Gutenberg, and promote Adobe Acrobat Reader. Sorry to be so negative, but it really took me for a loop after seeing what Planet E-book had to offer and then come across Abobe's version. Check it out for yourself.
Project Gutenberg - Project Gutenberg offers over 40,000 free ebooks: choose among free epub books, free kindle books, download them or read them online. This is truly a remarkable service. It is reminicent of Wikipedia, in that it is FREE and volunteer driven. They accept donations, so if you start using them a lot, I suggest that you donate something to them,. If everyone that used this service, gave $5 or $10, it would really help them offer more books and services. I really like this site, as it is all about promoting the reading experience. Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.
Google Play – There are several FREE Books online that you can read on your computer or an E-Reader Device, Tablet or Smartphone. Very comprehensive – BUT very confusing…. It seems to be Google's version of Itunes. The interface has lots of clever interactive components, but it isnot my first choice for procuring an e-book to read. If you are looking for a one stop source for movies, music, apps, magazines and books – this is an alternative to Itunes. Check it out… Try it for Yourself.
Itunes – FREE Books - I can't leave out Itunes. They were the first. There are so many apps that I can't list them all. One FREE one is called: 101 Classic Novels – Check it out… Try it for Yourself.
