Healthy and Easy to Make: Banana-Raspberry Pops

Banana Raspberry PopsicleDo you like to eat healthy cool nutritious treats?  I love making smoothies and frozen treats.  Today I came across a super easy to make recipe for banana raspberry pops. I found this online on the ehow website, which is totally awesome, if you have never checked it out.

The ingredients are very practical and can be found in most households, I am sure.  Take a look at the recipe below.  I must say that the author: Christina Stanley, really impressed me with her photos of the treat.  Personally, I do not think that I will be adding the chocolate at the ends, although, it is a great touch for entertaining.  I will stick to the standard recipe that follows:

Getting enough sleep lately? Lack of Sleep May Cause Weight Gain

Sleep does the body good. Despite knowing how vitally important sleep is to the body, I am so guilty of not getting enough sleep. I am a night owl. My best ideas come at night. Just last night, I finally called it a night at 2:30am. It was rough to get out of bed when the alarm clock rang at 6:30am this morning.

At 10pm, I promised myself that I had just one more thing to do. That one thing turned into many other things, since I had several meetings today that needed preparation. My day went off without a hitch, but I did find myself a little cranky with my colleagues and loved ones.

5 “Bad” Foods Dieters Should Not Avoid

Weight loss is never fun.  As they say in Weight Watchers it is a “Journey”. I might add, one that is not to be taken lightly. It takes discipline and commitment to be perfectly toned and to lose a large amount of weight.  I struggle to maintain a healthy balance of a consistent fitness routine with a healthy diet, since I enjoy cooking.

My guilty pleasures are nuts and swiss cheese.  I could live on these two items alone, but know that it is not good for my mid section or hips. I was delighted to read the article – 5 Bad Foods You Should Eat on a Diet, by Readers Digest Editor, Liz Vaccariello and author of the new book:  The Digest Diet.  In the article, the author listed off five”bad” foods dieters should not avoid.

Five “Bad” Foods Dieters should not avoid
  1. Chocolate
  2. Red Wine
  3. Cheese
  4. Nuts
  5. Coconut Oil

Stay on Track with Your Goals – Write them Down

Stay on Track with your goals - Write them down

Happy Monday!!! Today I am feeling great after a great weekend and wonderful Christmas.  I met some pretty cool people this weekend that really inspired me. Thanks Beth and Joseph for being so awesome and cool to hang out with.  It is nice to find true artists living their passions and getting paid doing it.  It gives hope that hard work and following your dreams pays off.

This morning I had a wonderful workout with the early birds.  Exercise sets the pace and the tone for the day.  I will weigh in this morning before breakfast and track my points on weight watcher’s online.  I am committed to staying on track.

I encourage you to start today with exercise and eating healthy. Take a walk in the neighborhood, on the beach, in the park, or ride a bicycle.  Purchase an exercise ball and a few small had weights from Target or Walmart.

It doesn’t take tons of money or lots of time.  It takes a few small steps to get started and a written down goal to track and monitor your progress. It is relatively simple and easy.  Tracking your eating and exercise and measuring progress helps you achieve your goals.

Woman losing 282 pounds is an Inspiration

Natalie Strawn on Good Morning America with Mom (ABC/News)

How would you feel if you lost 282 pounds over 2 years? Motivated or Disappointed?

Natalie Strawn, a 20 year old Nebraska woman, can tell you first hand that it is possible. Natalie struggled with her weight all her life. When she was 17, she had dropped out of high school because she could barely move with the 552 pounds of excess weight she was carrying around.

She was at a crossroads in her life and made a decision to do something about this weight that she so desperately needed to lose.  Weight Watchers was a part of that decision. She is taking each day, one day at a time, with the help of her mom and her continued quest of more weight loss.

I was truly inspired when I saw her story on Good Morning America.  As you all know, I am forever on a journey to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am a member of Weight Watchers Online and enjoy all of the support and love that I get from the Weight Watcher’s Online Community.  I can’t say enough good things about how much I have enjoyed the program.

Success and Disappointments go hand in hand

Men’s best successes come after their disappointments.
Henry Ward Beecher

Great quote… Now I encourage you to see every disappointment as a step in the right direction towards reaching your goal.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life, so go out there and make it work.  This includes exercise, work, weight loss, writing or any other thing that you are working on.

Recently, I saw the movie “My week with Marilyn”.  Very interesting take on a slice of the iconic Marilyn’s life.  She accomplished so much with so little.  You have to be in awe of this larger than life screen siren that really was so very simple.  She overcame so many obstacles and realized her dream.  Nothing came easy for her and most of the people that surrounded her, did not have her best interest at heart. Depression: How Exercise Helps You Feel Good

Exercise can help with Depression

Depression and anxiety are both serious issues that should not be taken lightly. This is especially true during the holidays.  If you suffer from depression or sad thoughts,  encourage you to reach out and talk to a professional or a loved one that you can confide in. Don’t go it alone.

If you know of someone that is suffering from depression, please reach out to them or seek help and treatment for them.  Sometimes it is hard to be a caregiver. I understand firsthand how difficult it can be.  Seek help and treatment for the person suffering from depression.

According to the Mayo Clinic: Exercise has many psychological and emotional benefits and can help you:

  • Gain confidence. Meeting exercise goals or challenges, even small ones, can boost your self-confidence. Getting in shape can also make you feel better about your appearance.
  • Take your mind off worries. Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.
  • Get more social interaction. Exercise may give you the chance to meet or socialize with others. Give someone a friendly smile or greeting to help put you in a better mood.
  • Cope in a healthy way. Doing something positive to manage anxiety or depression is a healthy coping strategy. [Read more...]

Cheers to new DWTS Champ – J.R. Martinez

DWTS J.R. Martinez

ABC - JR Martinez & Karina Smirnoff

I am so happy that Iraq war veteran J.R. Martinez is the new ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 13 champ. Although I am a not a loyal fan of the show, I do manage to keep tabs on the contestants and their progress. After watching the recap of Monday night, there was only one winner in my mind that could be crowned.  It was J.R. Martinez. My heart went out to him for his dancing and his grace.

It was a smart move for DWTS to cast a war veteran that has overcome so many odds already with the burns he suffered during the war.  Brilliant PR stunt that worked, only because J.R. Martinez is so special. [Read more...]

Happy Saturday…Heading out for morining Exercise

Today is a beautiful day in Sunny South Florida.  I have just finished my wonderful breakfast (Cheerios, Banana & Coffee).  I am getting ready for my 5 miler to start my day out right.  I have been up since dawn working on a new website so I need so fresh air to get my joints moving.

I am grateful that my dear friends in Forty Fort, PA are safe.  They were evacuated due to the heavy rains in their area.  My heart and prayers go out to all of the people affected by the storms this year. Regardless if someone that you know is affected, you just don’t want to see that happening to anyone.  I will definitely be giving to some charities to help the flood victims.  I am encouraging everyone to do the same.
