Happy Monday!!! I am happy to be back on track….

I had a successful workout regimen this weekend doing 3 miles and 90 min of yoga. This morning I did 60 minutes of yoga and stretching exercises.  It feels great to be alive and well.

Yesterday, I did partake in some Gluten-free cornbeef with my cabbage and potatoes, but not that much. I am happy that I avoided bread and had two large servings of veggies. I did however eat a few Lorna Doone cookies – but they were 100 calorie packs, so that was not too bad.

My Last Sunday Morning Jog for 2012…

exercise on beach

Well, I must say that I really enjoyed my last Sunday Jog for 2012 this morning… I am happy to say that I successfully completed 5 miles today.  It is amazing how great my body feels… I am sure that I will be feeling it  tomorrow, but I am going to try a do a quickie tonight on the beach… just 3 miles one last time for a Sunday in this glorious year.

I took some time out today and went to see the movie Jack Reacher.  As always, Tom Cruise did a fabulous job.  The entire cast did too, but in all honesty Tom Cruise was the reason why I went to see this movie. He is in amazing shape and never ceases to please me when I see him act. [Read more...]

What is the Best Workout For Your Heart?

Running and Heart Rate

Is Faster better than moderate longer workouts that have less impact on the joints?

According to a recent article from Men's Health new research in the BMJ Open,

Working out harder instead of longer could be the secret to warding off metabolic syndrome (MS), a combination of risk factors — which include obesity and high blood pressure — that increase your risk for cardiovascular disease.

Over ten years of looking at the fitness habits of people,  –researchers found that those who reported jogging or brisk walking 2 to 4 hours a week cut their risk of developing MS by 35 to 50 percent.

Wow!!! This really puts throws a wrench in my routine. I find that I feel much better when I workout with less impact on the joints, but consistently.  Yoga, Pilates and my fitness ball have both made such an impact on my mind and body. It is kind of disappointing to read about these new findings.

Getting enough sleep lately? Lack of Sleep May Cause Weight Gain

Sleep does the body good. Despite knowing how vitally important sleep is to the body, I am so guilty of not getting enough sleep. I am a night owl. My best ideas come at night. Just last night, I finally called it a night at 2:30am. It was rough to get out of bed when the alarm clock rang at 6:30am this morning.

At 10pm, I promised myself that I had just one more thing to do. That one thing turned into many other things, since I had several meetings today that needed preparation. My day went off without a hitch, but I did find myself a little cranky with my colleagues and loved ones.

2012 London Olympics: Call me maybe Parody – Funny….

The 2012 Summer Olympics is going strong… I have been enjoying swimming and gymnastics, but this post is about non-olympic moments.

The ever-so popular tune: “Call Me Maybe” by: Carly Rae Jepsen, has made its way to the 2012 Summer Olympics.

First: With the entire US Swim Team – which was really cute..

Second: With a parody of the Phelps v. Lochte rivalry – Awesome.

The video is produced by NOC - Youtube entertainment channel about the personalities an lives of athletes.

A few of the lyrics from the tune include: Hey, I’m not Michael, don’t eat at Subway/But this is my year, so call me Lochte/It’s hard to swim right, by Phelps baby/But this is my year, so call me Lochte. [Read more...]

Exercising with My New Samsung Galaxy S3

Today is the first day that I exercised with my new toy: The Samsung Galaxy S3. I am sure that I will be taking lots of photos with this phone. WOW… What a difference from my Blackberry. Although I loved my little red Blackberry, it can’t compete with Galaxy S3.

The screen size is great and the keyboard works awesome with my new screen cover.

I left my Ipod Touch at home today for my workout.  It felt a little weird without it at first, but I got over it quickly :)

I am still learning how to use my Samsung Galaxy S3. But Day 2 and exercise worked perfectly. Today I need to find a cool cover for the phone.  The sprint store only had lame covers that were not worth the price tag.  If I have to pay for the cover, I want it to have style as well as function. We all know how difficult it is to exercise when you have a demanding schedule. However, work and age is never an excuse. Despite having a hectic work schedule and being over 40, one of America’s most loved Chef’s Rachel Ray still finds time to exercise.  According to an article on OMG Yahoo!, she did not start exercising seriously until after 40. Given that she is in her early 40′s, this was only a few years ago.

Rachel Ray opens up about how she starts her day each morning in the gym with her husband. It is always a perk to have a live-in work out partner for exercise. Besides the obvious of a great physique, exercise is great for the mind. Rachel Ray stated the following in her interview with OMG Yahoo:

“It really makes me feel mentally so much more on point, so much more even. I don’t lose my temper. I don’t get lost in the middle of the day,” she shares. “I just have a much cleaner, clearer vision every day and I can get so much more accomplished mentally by moving physically every day.”

Fitness Ball is great for Core Strength

I just completed a 45 minute routine using my Fitness Ball. My body feels great after my cool down with a few dynamic  yoga stretches.

It is super fun and easy doing exercises with my Fitness Ball using my beautiful hardcover book “Swiss Ball for Core Strength” by Declan Condron.  One of the primary reasons I love this book is the design and spiral coil binding that is hidden within the hardcover. This makes it easy to keep the book flat while I am doing my Fitness Ball exercises. Kudo’s to author Declan Condron for using this type of bindery. It helps readers stay engaged while exercising and reading  the  “Swiss Ball for Core Strength” book. [Read more...]

Great Sunday Workout!!!

OMG!!!  Feeling great after my awesome workout… I have no proof, but I think that my IPOD Tunes really helped my work out intensity. Atlthough the tunes are random, today they were all very fast moving songs. When this happens, I tend to push myself harder. Wow!! My legs legs are feeling the 4 miles, I did today.

But I can’t leave out my Brooks Running Shoes.  They make my feet feel awesome and inspire me to be happy. The one thing that you can’t skimp on and that is proper exercise shoes. Personally, Brooks Running shoes are the  only ones that I wear. My arch will not allow me to be unfaithful to Brooks runnng shoes, so I am a loyal fan of this ultra comfortablle shoe. Bulge Battle: Keeping the weight off – permanently

I came across an interesting quick read from Health Day by US News and World Report. It made me smile because this should be a no-brainer for weight loss. Everyone should know that avoiding sauces, gravies and fattening dressings will help with the weight loss.  Consistency is key, if you want to succeed in your personal fitness quest. The Health Day Snippet shared a few pointers from Cleveland Clinic on maintaining  a healthy weight:
  • Cut down on daily calories; work with a dietitian to come up with the ideal caloric intake for you.
  • Scale back on sauces, dressings and other condiments. Make healthier choices  such as lemon juice, vinegar, and low-calorie marinades.
  • Don’t skip meals or starve yourself. This can make you pack on more pounds.
  • Eat high-fiber, whole grain foods. Don’t stock your kitchen with tempting foods. [Read more...]
